The Black One
By traveling to Kenya for the first time, it was my dream to see black rhinos in their natural habitat. Shortly after arriving in the magnificent Ol Pejeta Conservancy I saw two black rhinos in the open grassland. They were relaxed, but intensely observed me, the jeep and every movement we made. The bigger one had a very powerful look in his eyes which caught my attention. A rare, unique and unforgettable sight.
Black rhinos are critically endangered. There are roughly only 5000 left in Africa, 745 are living in Kenya. At Ol Pejeta Conservancy they have the highest population of over 130. It is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. Definitely one highlight of my dream safari adventure in Kenya.
