    The Black One

By traveling to Kenya for the first time, it was my dream to see black rhinos in their natural habitat. Shortly after arriving in the magnificent Ol Pejeta Conservancy I saw two black rhinos in the open grassland. They were relaxed, but intensely observed me, the jeep and every movement we made. The bigger one had a very powerful look in his eyes which caught my attention. A rare, unique and unforgettable sight. Black rhinos are critically endangered. There are roughly only 5000 left in Africa, 745 are living in Kenya. At Ol Pejeta Conservancy they have the highest population of over 130. It is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. Definitely one highlight of my dream safari adventure in Kenya.

To be the whole day up in the tree can be tough. A good stretch before he goes down to hunt always helps.

    Sila and her cubs

We found Sila and her cubs on our first game drive. Fortunatly we found her again just before we left to go back home.

Note: After we came back home I read that one of them was killed by a lioness. This is so unfortunate, because the cheetah population is really low and we need as many cubs to survive to grow them back. They survival rate of a cubs in the wild is only by 60%.

    The King III

This look. This expression. This confidence and showing of power. He looks like the real king of the plains. What a fantastic sighting. I'm still getting goosebumbs watching him. One of the male lions of the pride that resides around the Mara Bush Camp.
